The tenth nouveau, is from Norfolk County where the Villa Nova Estate Winery offers a VQA approved Marechal Foch Nouveau at the winery, or through local restaurants.

The grapes for this wine were harvested at the Pais family vineyard in Renton Ontario October 2nd, 2013 and vinified with a special fermentation strategy. Whole clusters were fermented in CO2 in a procedure called “Carbonic Maceration”. The result is a wonderful light red wine, with lots of fruit and lower alcohol content (10.4%). The wine is a versatile accompaniment to food – we just had some with herbed roasted chicken. Did I mention that there are only 25 cases, at $10.50/bottle?

We are open weekends in November and every day in December.

New Wine Releases: Golden Mead 2012 & Peach Wine 2012 http://www.villanovaestatewinery.ca/?p=154 http://www.villanovaestatewinery.ca/?p=154#comments Thu, 15 Aug 2013 02:07:47 +0000 http://www.villanovaestatewinery.ca/?p=154 SEA_2167Mead was the first wine made by our ancestors, and it is still wonderful and unique. It is made by fermenting honey dissolved in water. It took us almost a full year to make and release this wine. Last August we started with honey from our friends at Harmony Hives, who keep hives at our farm. The mead fermented very slowly until late February 2013. We thank Kim Flintoff from Rush Creek Winery, and Terry Rayner for their advice in mead making and evaluation. Our starting point was a great article posted at the Amateur Winemakers of Ontario by mead-maker Peter Bennel.

Our peach wine was approved by LCBO and will be available later this week.

We invite you to visit our open house this weekend, Sat & Sunday 11AM-6PM.

Bobolinks, New Wine Releases and Canada Day http://www.villanovaestatewinery.ca/?p=157 http://www.villanovaestatewinery.ca/?p=157#comments Mon, 01 Jul 2013 02:12:27 +0000 http://www.villanovaestatewinery.ca/?p=157 bo0bolink3-21On Friday night, I realized that I had a male bobolink  trying to get my attention in the vineyard. I think  that one of his brood must have been close by. Saturday morning, I believe I saw a female with a yound bird, but they headed down into the valley. My naturalist neighbour took a very nice picture of the male, down in the valley, as attached. The valley is good habitat as shown in the website photos. When last seen, the bobolink was close to the winery.

Our premium red blend -Aenigma is back. We thought that this would be a fall release, but the wine is soft in the mouth and drinking well now. Some tasters have thought that the Regent-Cabernet Sauvignon blend was peppery. It would be a great accompaniment to BBQ beef. Earlier we released the Pinot Gris and Riesling 2012 vintages.

Canada Day is Monday. I’m putting up my flag in the next 20 minutes and invite all of you to enjoy the parade in Port Dover (which includes boats), and a glass of Canadian wine. Check out the Ontario South Coast Wineries.
