It seems like we are almost ready for Christmas. We have lots of red, white and fruit wines, bottle packages, and wine baskets. Some of our newer releases include Trout-Fly Riesling (2012) and a nouveau wine (Marechal Foch 2013).  We have 2 sparkling products for Christmas and New Years – Vidal and  Saucey Cider.

The older half of our lineup have been drinking well all year – Aenigma Red 2012, Marechal Foche 2010, Chambourcin-Bianca 2010, Frontenac 2010, Pinot Gris 2012,  Peach 2012 and Golden Mead 2012.

A recent addition to the list was our Nectar – a nectarine wine with a dash of mead, and a little fresh grape juice to make a delectable sweet (5) after dinner libation.

Our most recent approval from VQA was for our 2012 Pinot Noir.

A wine colleague observed “Nice Garnet Colour. Nose was very pleasant with hint of cherry, strawberry and earthyness. It is easy drinking, pleasant well balanced with a nice finish.”

We are open every day to the end of December. Samples are complimentary.

March 27 – A Quick Visit North Found the Tundra Swans & Chickadees http://www.villanovaestatewinery.ca/?p=172 http://www.villanovaestatewinery.ca/?p=172#comments Thu, 28 Mar 2013 02:19:46 +0000 http://www.villanovaestatewinery.ca/?p=172 3542_562649037098841_1835787888_nWe can still hear lots of swans in the evening at the Townsend lagoons, but they are dispersing further every day. Smaller flocks seem to use our farm as a way point as they usually turn overhead. We saw flocks on cornfields near Burford on Monday night, and near New Hamburg on Tuesday evening. In Paisley I heard a chickadee and realized that I had not heard them at the farm for a while. On Tuesday night we found robins had arrived back home on Concession 13.

The winter has been topsy-turvy in weather, but bud survival shows that our grape vines have have come thru well so far (knock on wood), except for our Merlot. Cabernet Sauvignon usually survives and Merlot does not at our site. There is still lots of risk still ahead if bud-break is early and frost comes later in May. Brock University’s CCOVI site, where they assess the risk of cold temperatures to grape buds really helps to keep this in perspective. http://www.grapegrowersofontario.com/node/268

Chambers Pancake House is still open. Wineries have to close for Good Friday and Easter Sunday. We will be open on Saturday.
